No matter where you live in San Diego, having a good air conditioning system is crucial to your ability to stay cool during the heat. But if your air conditioning system has started to make any new or strange noises it could indicate that you need to call for AC repairs. At ARS® San Diego, we provide complete air conditioning repair in San Diego, CA. One of the most common calls for repair that we get is someone’s AC unit making a weird noise. We thought it would be helpful to put together some of the most common air conditioning noises that we hear.
With all the use that your air conditioning system gets, it makes sense that it would eventually break down. One of the main indicators that you need San Diego air conditioning repair is a new noise. Here are a few of the most common.
Your air conditioning system uses a compressor to push refrigerant through a series of coils. Often, the refrigerant can start to leak which will sound like a hissing noise. This often happens near the compressor where the pressure is the highest. It can also happen at the reversing valve if you have a heat pump.
A gurgling sound is another common issue that we get called for. This normally means that your air conditioning system is low on refrigerant. The gurgling is from air in the lines. You should always have a professional San Diego air conditioning contractor add more refrigerant to your AC system.
Squealing is also a frequent service call that we receive. This is almost always caused by the fan belt. With time, the belt can wear out and start to make a loud, annoying screeching sound.

Just yesterday the air would not work so I called Mike and within 20 minutes he was at our house and found out it was not a problem with the air conditioning but with our old breaker box, one of the wires came loose and he fixed it even though it was not his job to do so and he did not charge us! Is this customer service or what? I would not hesitate to recommend ARS to anyone. They are awesome.Jeanie L.
